Grandma Sarah’s Turkey Dressing

  • 1 ½ loaves white sandwich bread, 3-5 days old
  • ½ loaf wheat bread, 3-5 days old
  • ¾ cup celery, finely chopped
  • ½ large white onion, finely chopped
  • ½ cup parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 lb. butter
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Line a large baking dish with parchment paper. Heat oven to 300’.

Cut or break up bread and place in large bowl, omitting crust if desired. Add celery, onion, and parsley. Mix well with your hands.

On medium heat, melt 2-3 tablespoons of butter to a large pan. Add 3-4 handfuls of bread mixture. Season with salt and pepper. Stir bread mixture, but do not let it get browned. Once the bread has absorbed the butter, remove and add to baking dish. Bread mixture will reduce significantly.

Repeat this process with the remaining bread mixture. May take 2-3 more times.

Drizzle about ½ cup chicken broth and cover baking dish tightly with foil and bake for 10-15 minutes, just until hot. Serves 8-10.
